Air Source Heat Pumps

All of your domestic heating needs fulfilled in an environmentally friendly, and cost effective manner.

Air source heat pumps are far cleaner than other systems, such as oil, gas and direct electric systems. As a result, they also significantly reduce your carbon footprint.

They are installed externally to your home to extract the heat from outside.

Air source heat pumps are essentially made from four key components:

  • Compressor
  • Condenser
  • Expansion valve
  • Evaporator

How do air source heat pumps work?

Primarily, the evaporator captures heat from the atmosphere, turning it from a liquid to a gas. Next, the gas passes through the compressor inside the heat pump to increase its temperature, which is used to heat your home and hot water. Finally, the heat is distributed around your home by underfloor heating, radiators or a mixture of both.

What is the basic principle of a heat pump?

Heat Pumps use the free enviromental energy, from the air, the soil and the groundwater.

Air Source Heat Pumps are a proven alternative to traditional heating systems.

Replace your boiler with a heat pump

In 2019, the Committee on Climate Change demanded that from 2025, new homes should not be connected to the gas grid, with gas boilers being banned in all new-builds within the next six years.

It currently costs approximately £4000 to replace a gas boiler with a more efficient one. Air source heat pumps are more expensive (between £7000 and £13000), however funding through government grants (up to £7500 in Scotland) are available to assist with the installation, making them competitive in price.

If you replace a G-rated gas boiler with an air source heat pump, you could reduce your average annual bill up to £1500. Not only this, but if you install a heat pump, it could add up to 10% to the value of your home.
